About
Identity and Place in the Art of
Meryl McMaster, Christopher Pratt,
Takao Tanabe, & David Thauberger
Landscape has a defining place in Canadian art, offering artists a way to explore memory, identity, and belonging. This talk looks at Takao Tanabe (b.1926), known for his atmospheric views of the British Columbia coast; Christopher Pratt (1935–2022), whose precise, haunting images capture the landscapes and architecture of Newfoundland and Labrador; David Thauberger (1948–2026), who depicted the vernacular landmarks of the Prairies; and Meryl McMaster (b.1988), whose photographic self-portraits explore her relationship with land. Together, their works reveal how artists transform familiar landscapes into deeply personal visions of Canada.
Seating is on a first-come, first served basis.
We recommend coming early to secure your seat.
