Jim Burant MA

Art historian and curator; Adjunct Professor, Art History, Carleton University; member of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation.

A member of the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation, Jim Burant is an archivist, curator, author, and Adjunct Professor of Art History at Carleton University. While at Library and Archives Canada, he managed the Art and Photography Archives from 1998 to 2010, overseeing the work of a team of fifteen art and photography archivists who were responsible for the acquisition, description, and specialized access to LAC’s holdings of more than half a million works of art and more than thirty million photographs. He was also a Director with the National Archival Appraisal Board of Canada from 2014 to 2024. In recognition of his many achievements, he was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal (2002) and the Archives Association of Ontario’s Alexander Fraser Award (2011).
