At 10 years of age, Michael Audain became enthralled watching the great Kwakwaka'wakw master carver Naka'pankam (Mungo Martin) at work at the Royal B.C. Museum. Since then, the art of British Columbia and Canada have fascinated Audain, whose name is now synonymous with support for this country's visual art and the importance of collecting it.

This interview will reveal when and why Audain began buying art and how he became one of Canadian art's most devoted patrons and instrumental in preserving and promoting our country's cultural heritage. The conversation will highlight how he built his eponymous museum, which is comprised entirely of British Columbian art from the late 18th century to the present, how he recently made history with his unprecedented gift to the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the vision behind his achievement.
