In 2007 Parkin saw this work by David Altmejd at the Venice Biennale.


“I love David Altmejd. His work is just the opposite of Minimalism. He’ll express his view of another world populated by werewolves and things that are rather repulsive, but at the same time the pieces have a magic that draws you in. It’s like you can’t resist it, but it’s dangerous. It’s like sparkling jewels, but he mixes those jewels with these animals, and the whole thing is otherworldly. You might say, ‘How can you look at this work and feel passionately?’ All I know is that my passions are diverse.”
