Edward Mitchell Bannister (c.1828–1901) was a Black Canadian-American artist who achieved extraordinary success as an artist despite facing intense systemic racism. He was particularly admired for his paintings of landscapes and seascapes, many of which depicted the coastal communities and cities he lived in and near.
