The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton presents a major retrospective of abstract painter Oscar Cahén. After fleeing the Nazis in 1940, the vibrant and emotionally complex artist broadened the scope of illustration and painting in Canada in only a few short years. The exhibit will examine the artist’s significant contributions to Canadian art, expanding the scope of work beyond his well-known images to explore a much larger representation of his oeuvre. The eponymous exhibition opens next month and will run until January 21, 2018.
