The West Wing Brings Porcelain Chinoiseries is a stunning example of Borduas’s 1950 watercolours. He worked in two stages. Using a diluted watercolour pigment, he first painted the principal masses. The drying process resulted in various colour intensities (rose, ochre, gray, black); he then applied ink with a fine brush to mark the red lines of the “porcelains.” The result is a delicate treatment of the whole, perfectly expressed in the title, that plays with a world of association of ideas and forms.
